Parents may apply to a minimum of 1 school and a maximum of 4 schools. Hot Spot Schools require at least 3 applications, including the Hot Spot School.

Grade R Progression

Learners already enrolled in Grade R at schools offering Grade 1 automatically progress. Parents should NOT submit another Grade 1 application.

Feeder Zone

Priority is given to learners living within 10 km of the selected school.

Public Ordinary Schools

The Smart Admit system applies only to Public Ordinary Schools.

Applying for Grade R and Grade 1

If the learner is not currently enrolled at a Public Ordinary School, select 'Private' or 'Not Applicable' under Current School.

Minimum Age — Grade R

The learner must turn 5 years before 30 June 2027.

Minimum Age — Grade 1

The learner must turn 6 years before 30 June 2027.
